About Esther's Pantry

A vital community program, Esther's Pantry has served thousands of people over its 25 year history. Open to clients every Monday from noon to 4:00 pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 6:30 pm, the pantry is unique in that it allows clients to select the food they want, from well-stocked shelves, rather than being handed a pre-packed box of food.

Much of the food we receive at Esther’s Pantry comes from community food drives. Donations dropped of at one of our sites go directly to individuals and families in our community who are living with HIV/AIDS. Our clients visit Esther’s Pantry monthly to receive supplemental food.

Esther’s Pantry was founded in 1985 to provide financially challenged individuals living with HIV/AIDS access to food and personal care items. The pantry was named in memory of Chester "Esther" Brinker, one of the first people in Portland to die of complications from AIDS.

For over 25 years Esther’s has provided food and personal care items to thousands of people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS. Our House recognizes the need to provide this food bank service and is fully committed to ensuring the continuation of the pantry. The Pantry serves approximately 200 clients a month with groceries and personal care items.
