John Ogden

John Ogden is the director of research communications for the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research in Portland, which conducts health services research within Kaiser Permanente Northwest ranging from clinical trials to genetics and genomics to health economics. In addition to his work with Kaiser Permanente, he also serves as leader of the research center's equity, inclusion, and diversity committee, which works to ensure these principles are advanced throughout the organization - both in the workplace and in the science. Prior to joining the board of directors at Our House of Portland, John served for nearly three years on its Ambassador Council.

 

While he began his career on-camera in television news in his hometown of Philadelphia, John has spent the majority of his career serving in communications roles at nonprofit healthcare organizations large and small. He has held leadership roles with local community organizations as well as larger-scale national patient advocacy groups, and he served as the VP of marketing and communications for the Mid-Atlantic chapter of Make-A-Wish. He is also a consultant, providing services for patient advocacy and healthcare professional organizations, assisting with development strategies, messaging, and public relations. 

 

Prior to living in Portland, John and his husband Kevin Bumatay lived for many years in Washington, D.C. Kevin serves as the chief financial officer at Ecotrust. He and Kevin love traveling, having visited more than 40 countries together, and they split their time between northeast Portland and the spectacular Oregon Coast.
