Robin Castro

Robin retired from Quest Communications in 2006 after 28 years. His last position there was Secretary/Treasured for Communications Workers of America, Local 7901 from 2002-2006. Robin was Chair of the Diversity Council while at the phone company in 1996. Following a two year break from Qwest, Robin took a “dream” retirement job at Fisher Communications as a part-time receptionist for KATU-TV. Eventually he took a full time accounting position and officially retired in 2013.

Robin and his partner John Halseth worked on the Oregon United for Marriage campaign, speaking at several events in Oregon as part of the speaker’s bureau. After winning the right to marry, Robin and John married in 2015, on their 20th anniversary.

Robin has always been involved with social justice issues, working on the No On 9 and No On 13 campaigns, as well as a volunteer with Cascade AIDS Project in the late ’80s through mid ’90s. A former board member of Basic Rights Oregon Political Action Committee, his board involvement is ongoing, joining his husband John on the Our House of Portland Board, as well as a board member for Immigration Counseling Services.

Robin and John are avid Timber’s fans and also are the fortunate servants to two tuxedo cats, Now See Here “Missy” and Kitty Kitty Bang Bang!
